30 Years of Chocolate Starfish

The Best of Everything

Festival favourites Chocolate Starfish are set to join a super-stellar lineup at the Toyota 53rd Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2025.

The energetic, theatrical rock band is no stranger to country music audiences, having dazzled them at genre-bending festivals such as the Big Red Bash and Mundi Mundi Bash.

‘It’s a massive honour for us to be included in such an iconic Australian music festival,’ said dynamic frontman, Adam Thompson. ‘It’s the perfect way to cap off our 30th anniversary celebrations by bringing our ‘Best of Everything’ show to Tamworth!’

Chocolate Starfish performs at Tamworth Wests on Saturday, 18 January at 12pm. This show will be a true highlight of the TCMF and one not to miss!

Chocolate Starfish powered on to the Australian music scene in the early 1990s and quickly established themselves as an influential force with their cover of Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’, original hit ‘Mountain’ and perennial favourite ‘Four Letter Word’. They wholeheartedly earned their reputation as one of Australia’s best live bands of the 90s, boasting two Top 10 albums and six Top 50 singles.

Thirty years later, the band is living up to this reputation and then some, still dazzling audiences away with their powerhouse performances and magnetic stage presence. Chocolate Starfish continues to deliver the pure, unadulterated entertainment for which they are renowned, their captivating shows imbued with intensity and revelry – and, as always, with a few surprises.

Driving this rock ‘n’ roll juggernaut is electric, engaging front man Adam Thompson, whose provocative vocals and unpredictable stage antics compel audiences to sing along, dance along and even jump along as he leads them in what could be described as a mass game of ‘Simon Says’. ‘Starfish Says’, anyone?

As Black + White magazine observed, ‘If there’s an audience, he’ll play up to them, if there’s a balcony, he’ll climb it, if there’s energy in the room, he’ll milk it.’

The thundering current of the band’s energy is kept rushing with relentless force by Darren Danielson on drums, while Norm Falvo on keyboard balances the mix with his restrained animation. Prowling the stage with Thompson is bass guitarist John ‘Stones’ Nixon and guitarist Zakk Zedras, who joined the line up as a more permanent fixture after the tragic death of original guitarist and songwriter Zoran Romic in 2012.

Celebrating 30 years since they powered onto the Australian music scene with their cover of Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’ and their self-titled debut album, Chocolate Starfish shows no signs of slowing down. They continue to live up to their hard-earned reputation as one of the country’s best live bands, dazzling audiences with their high-energy performances and pure, unadulterated entertainment.

Always a crowd favourite, The Fish have become renowned for their hugely successful Classic Album Series that has seen two tours of their widely acclaimed ‘Bat Out of Hell’ show plus their lauded tour of INXS:KICK. The band prides itself on making the audience the centrepiece of the Starfish experience – they perform with their audiences, not for them – and delivering the joy of the unexpected.

The Best of Everything tour promises audiences everything they know and love about a Chocolate Starfish show – pure, unrivalled entertainment…and the joy of the unexpected.

‘Sometimes it feels like these first 30 years, we’ve just been warming up,’ muses Thompson. ‘This truly is The Best of Everything we have to offer.’
