Consisting of Drew McAlister and Troy Kemp, McAlister Kemp is one of the most successful Australian country acts of the last decade. From the immediate, breakout success of their debut album ‘All Kinds of Tough’ in 2010 until they disbanded in 2015, the duo earned their stripes as one of the highest selling and exciting touring entities in Australian country music.
But it is not just the strength of their live shows that brought them acclaim, their three albums; ‘All Kinds of Tough’ (2010), ‘Country Proud’ (2012) and ‘Harder to Tame’ (2014) are classics of the genre, packed with hands-in-the-air rockers such as “Country Proud”, “Hell Yeah” and “Hard Work” anthems like “All Kinds of Tough”, “It Don’t Buy You Love” and “Home”.
As solo artists away from McAlister Kemp, Drew and Troy have enjoyed hit singles, awards and touring. With a legacy as enduring as the MK catalogue, it was only a matter of time before the pair reunited and unleashed their enormous country-rock sound once again.
Recorded between Nashville and Sydney, ‘We Roll On’, their fourth official studio album was released in 2022, and was the duo’s first new album in over 7 years after a hiatus to follow solo projects.
Drew McAlister said on the release of the album, “After so long between releases it feels pretty cool to finally have something to put out there into the universe. The writing side of things was super awesome as well, we hadn’t written together for some years and we just
fell back into it like nothing had changed. We’re enjoying taking it out on the road and having some fun!”
Troy Kemp concurred, “Living on opposite sides of the world, we wrote 9 of the 10 songs on online Zoom sessions during the Covid Pandemic and borrowed one from Nashville to round out the album. We didn’t want to reinvent the wheel, we just stuck to that classic MK sound and those distinct themes that worked so well for us in days gone by. “We Roll On” is a collection of 10 songs, from upbeat party vibes to mid tempo sing alongs, down to the heartfelt ballad or two.”
